Dinex Promotes Clean and Green Technology at Public Climate Meeting

From the 2nd to the 4th of September, Dinex took part in the biggest public climate event in Denmark, arranged annually in Middelfart - where Dinex was founded almost 40 years ago, and is still headquartered. Politicians, NGOs and green/cleantech companies from all over the country joined in and took up the debate along with ordinary citizens, to spread knowledge, share opinions, and identify solutions to speed up the green and clean agenda. Because that is how we drive the change.

The event was visited by thousands of people, and for all 3 days we welcomed the opportunity to present and discuss the pathway to a green and clean future of the transportation industry.

Dinex’ message was clear: With the emission technologies present in modern Heavy Duty vehicles, the on-road transport industry is today as clean as it has ever been, and it will continue to reduce its environmental footprint as more and more pre-Euro VI vehicles are decommissioned. But the sector needs to decarbonize, and this is where we as an industry – supported by the policy makers – need to put all our efforts into technologies that can make a true difference for our climate footprint, and bring down greenhouse gas emissions fast, efficiently, and pragmatic for the specific application.

Diesel engines, and combustion engines in general, is based on mature, cost efficient and clean technology. They power over 400 million commercial vehicles all over the world, and there is a global re-fueling infrastructure already in place. The majority is powered by fossil fuels, but there are today alternative options with CO2-neutral biofuels and synthetic fuels, that can instantly turn an existing vehicle’s climate footprint down to a minimum without compromising performance or efficiency. The problem is not the engine – it’s the fuel.

The climate agenda is not a local problem, nor a regional one. It’s a global challenge. And it’s a challenge that all industry sectors as well as regions of the world, need to find its proper solutions for. The Heavy Duty transportation sector relies on fuels with high energy density, and cost-efficient powertrain technologies. The most obvious shortcut to start the decarbonization of the transport industry goes through the combustion engine. It accepts a wide range of fuels that are easily distributable all over the planet, it is widely adopted in all regions of the world, and the further development potentials for achieving even higher energy efficiencies are huge. As long as we continue to invest in its further innovation.

When the topic of future powertrain technologies are on the table, we see a tendency of favoring certain new technologies without relating to the environmental, ethical and pragmatically feasible limitations that comes with it. We already see headlines in certain media declaring that “The Combustion Engine is Dead”. We see it opposite – we see a bright future for the combustion engine as well as our climate and environment, as long as we continue to invest in its continued development, instead of waiting for alternative engine technologies to gain momentum in the market.
